THE SUNDERING ยท Concept art
Long before the kingdoms on today's maps, a civilization learned to touch the Veil: the boundary through which deeper forces reach into the physical world. They tried to control it. It ruptured.
Mountains fractured. Magic flooded places that had never known it. Creatures, ecosystems and whole races were altered. Settlements vanished so completely that the records arguing about them outlived the people who wrote them. Every schoolroom in Aethara teaches an explanation for the Sundering. Every one of those explanations is incomplete.
"We thought the silence meant the danger had passed. We were wrong."
Rebuilt from fragments. Law, trade, construction and defense. Diverse, capable, and not automatically right.
Carry inherited knowledge and sensitivity to the Veil. They believe power requires restraint, and their own histories have deliberate gaps.
Remade by the rupture. Mineral bodies, molten light beneath the fissures, and a future tied to a world that changed them.
Faced extinction and found a way to live on energy bled from the damaged Veil. It saved them. It also made them something else.
Preserve, stabilize and ultimately seal the dangerous breaches. The Sundering nearly ended civilization. Some boundaries exist for a reason.
Understand and master the Veil instead of destroying access to it. Sealing it may threaten the existence of races the rupture created.
Neither side is the good faction. Both contain heroes, opportunists, extremists, scholars, criminals and ordinary people trying to get through the season.
Only levels 1-10 are in the alpha. The chapters below are the plan for the full game, not live content.
The local problem. Grounded regional trouble with anomalies underneath it, ending in the first undeniable evidence that something old is active again.
Patterns. The same incidents appear elsewhere, and faction authorities read the same evidence in opposite ways.
Escalation. Ancient sites and records start contradicting the accepted history, and both factions want them.
Doubt. Both sides are working from manipulated histories. The opposing faction may not be the real enemy.
The buried truth. The origins of the four races and the catastrophe begin connecting, and powerful institutions would prefer they did not.
The first great revelation. The Sundering was not simply an accident.
